The bands name should have something lurid. It is about riding the storm and mythology.
A Harpyie (“ripper”, harpeia in latin) is a winged composite being in greek mythology. Spelled like the band does it also denotes the mightiest eagle on earth, which really exists.
The fundamentally positive but nevertheless very powerful formation from Germany offer a protean storm between elements of modern metal, reconditioning’s of traditional playing styles and medieval tunes in german language.
The listeners might describe HARPYIE´s music as Folk-Metal or Medieval Rock. The guys and the girl themselves are content with leaving the categorization of their works to the audience.
But HARPYIE have something to tell, stories so real and true-to-life and yet sometimes so far away like a yearningly dream. Yet these are not only texts grounded in medieval themes and stories, as HARPYIE are right in the here and now, just like everything that affects them.
Optically HARPYIE just set the signs of their music and by displaying their emotions and motivations within their songwriting are trying to communicate that feeling to the audience and spectators. HARPYIE regard themselves as a total work of art and so don´t put their focus one-sided on the music only.
Despite their short duration of action HARPYIE already enjoy through their performances and their promo song "Hundertdreyßig" considerable attention from the audience of various relevant radio stations and the active internet community.
If a unique narrative voice and folkloristic instruments combined with the pressure of modern metal become a tornado, then HARPYIE are a storm of the century!
(official homepage) Am Anfang stand da diese Idee etwas anderes zu schaffen, etwas neues und unverwechselbares und so fand sich der Grundkern der Band , um genau zu sagen das Rockset schon Anfang 2011 zusammen. Der Wunsch nach Folklore, neuen und alten Klängen war schnell in den Gründungsmitgliedern Aello, Gyronimus, Podargo und Ocypus aufgekeimt und so machten sie sich auf die Suche. Mit Mechtild (ex-Finisterra), Michael (ex-Rayneke) und Garik fanden HARPYIE ihr finales Spielmannsglück.
Warum HARPYIE?
Der Bandname soll etwas „reißerisches“ haben. Es geht um geflügelte Worte und Mythologie.
Eine Harpyie ( „Reißer“, lateinisch harpeia) ist ein geflügeltes Mischwesen der griechischen Mythologie so wie sich die Band selbst schreibt ist die Harpyie aber auch der mächtigste Adler auf der Erde, und den gibt es wirklich.
Die grundpositiven aber trotzdem nicht weniger druckvollen Ostwestfalen bieten einen wechselwarmen Sturm zwischen Elementen des modernen Metal, Aufbereitungen klassischer Spielweisen und mittelalterlichen Klängen mit deutscher Sprache.
Der Hörer würde die Musik von HARPYIE wohl als Folk-Metal bzw. Mittelalter-Rock bezeichnen. Die Jungs und das Mädel selbst überlassen das klassifizieren ihrer Werke nur zu gerne ihrem Publikum.
