Meet Azar Swan: a band that will convince you that you actually like industrial pop.
Yes, that's right, industrial pop. Think Kate Bush-meets-Fever Ray, with the duo making music that's as dark as it is catchy. You can hear it on their album Dance Before The War, or see it on the new music video for the title track. In it, Zohra Swan and Josh Strawn--who previously played in Religious to Damn together--wander through a foreboding black and white mountainscape.
And considering that Azar Swan just signed to Zoo Music--which has previously put out music by bands like Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles--you can expect to be hearing a lot more industrial pop in the future.

Klingt wie Kate Bush mit Schluckauf, erinnert an Siouxsie and the Banshees ohne Gitarren, ist kein Schnee von gestern, sondern das Duo Azar Swan (Zohra Swan and Josh Strawn) aus New York, natürlich Brooklyn. Mit wabernden Sounds, kieksiger Stimme und hibbeligen Drumcomputer sowie düsteren Beats genau das richtige für melancholischen Stadtkinder. Am Anfang war ich ein wenig zögerlich, das gebe ich gerne zu.
„Dance Before The War“, der Titelsong ihres die Tage ausschliesslich digital erschienenden Debütalbum, ist nicht schlecht und wächst nach mehrmaligen hören. Der Song „White Violet“ kommt mir verdammt bekannt vor. Klingt wie geklaut, klingt wie Cindy Lauper, geht so. Aber dann, die elektronische Beats, die Geisterstimmung zwischen Gothic und Wave auf Tracks wie „Lusty“, „Amrika“ oder „The Knife and The Wolf“, die sorgen dann doch für für wohlige Unruhe. Im Moment, und nur der zählt, mag ich diese drei Songs sehr.
