(last.fm) Desiderii Marginis was formed by Johan Levin in 1993 in Mjölby, Sweden as a solo project. The initial intention was to release just a few demotapes with material that failed to fit into the repertoire of his main band at the time The Wounded Meadow. The first three tapes “Consecrare”, “Via Peregrinus” and “Triptych” were released in limited editions of a modest handfull. Some of these songs later appeared in new versions on Songs Over Ruins, released on the loveable Cold Meat Industry label.
After the first full CD Desiderii Marginis was already known throughout the dark-ambient scene. Comparing the new project in the first place with fellow label Raison D’Etre, critics noted some notable differences - first, much more attention to the rhythmic structure, as well as completely different, different from the music of Peter Andersson’s post-apocalyptic atmosphere more suited to work beginning of the 90th of Brighter Death Now, In Slaughter Natives or Archon Satani. Figuratively as one of the reviewers - “Songs Over Ruins” - this hour tour around the world, have ceased to exist, where all life is ended, the road will not find anything alive, only endless dust and ashes, skeletons of dead trees, but the ruins of collapsed buildings and broken machines. “
The next album “Deadbeat” was released only four years later, in 2001 th. For the attentive fan scene is a sign that the work on the material most likely was a thoughtful and thorough, and the CD did not disappoint expectations hear professionally made serious result.

Ein Jahr vor dem Jubiläum hat er nun auf Cyclic Law seinen bereits siebten Longplayer veröffentlicht, wobei einige der ersten Alben, etwa das erste 1997 in kleinen limitierten Auflagen erschien. „Procession“ ist weit mehr als nur Dark Ambient-Musik, es ist getreu seinem Titel eine Art Prozession, ein festlicher Umzug durch hunderte von Jahren düsterer Geschichte, eine absolut einnehmende cineastische musikalische Apokalypse. Levin arbeitet als Archäologe und Altertumsforscher an der Universität Göteborg, und vielleicht haben ihn ja seine Arbeit und seine außermusikalischen Interessen dermaßen inspiriert und beflügelt, dass „Procession“ entsprechend groß und voller historischer Assoziationen geworden ist. Natürlich gibt es herkömmliche Anklänge an Ambient und an New Age mit seinen typischen Synthie-Flächen und mit Sounds, die an Klangschalen erinnern, viel spannender aber sind die historischen und religiösen Motive. Hier taucht die Hörerschaft zwangsläufig in gotische Kathedralen des 13. Jahrhunderts ein, hier wird eine mystische Zeitreise in alle Facetten des Mittelalters geboten, hier finden sich aber auch orientalische Einflüsse und asiatische Elemente. Trifft hier der europäische auf den buddhistischen Mönch? Ist diese Prozession nun ein feierliches Gedenken oder doch eher ein Leidensweg? So wie das europäische Mittelalter nicht nur düster oder strahlend war, ist auch „Procession“ DESIDERII MARGINIS ein Wechselbad der Gefühle, das unglaublich einnehmend ist, einen in seinen Bann zieht und daraus auch so schnell nicht entlässt. Aber es hinterlässt Spuren, und Bilder, vage Erinnerungen wie aus Träumen – und das ist es ja auch, was den Archäologen interessiert.
