20 years ago, the career of a band that been a household name for solid, catchy, high quality Electro sounds ever since kicked off. That band is Solitary Experiments.
With five studio albums, three remix compilations, one EP and one single, as well as subsequent reissue editions, the lads from Brandenburg and Berlin are one of the most renowned groups in the realm of electronic Pop music.
Solitary Experiments were formed in 1994 in Frankfurt (Oder) by Dennis Schober and Michael Thielemann, with vocal support from Dana Apitz, and managed to gain a rather solid reputation within the scene with their first three releases “FINAL APPROACH”, “PARADOX” and the remix album “FINAL ASSAULT” (…all of which were re-released by Out of Line in 2006 with bonus tracks.) With their debut for Out of Line “ADVANCE INTO UNKNOWN”, the group then had their final break-though in the scene. The following double-EP “CAUSE AND EFFECT” helped to cement their status as darlings of the press and Electro-aficionados. Adding Steve Graeber on keyboards in 1999 band continued as a trio. Numerous tracks on compilations, tours with bands like Icon of Coil, [:SITD:], Neuroticfish, Funker Vogt and Blutengel, as well as headlining gigs and festivals all across Europe and the USA made Solitary Experiments a band that no Electrohead could pass by.
With 2005’s “MIND OVER MATTER”, the German quartet (adding Frank Glassl on live drums) managed to catapult itself to the forefront of the Electro scene. In 2006, the long-deleted first three albums of the band were re-released and one year later, Solitary Experiments followed up with another club smasher: “COMPENDIUM”. Basically a remix-album, the CD also featured some massive collaborations with other artists, such as Feindflug or Agonoize.
On the next album “IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER”, the band showcased its versatility once again. It contains the club hits “Immortal” and “Rise And Fall” and quickly advanced to the most successful long playing album in the band’s career. Picking up the successful thread from the previous but further evolving the sound, the record showcases a perfect fusion of emotional depth and club-driven beats.
In 2010, Solitary Experiments were celebrating their 15th anniversary of working as a band. In honor of this special jubilee, they not only released the CD “COMPENDIUM 2” which features unreleased, collaborations, mixes, versions, as well as rare remixes they did for others, but also organized a commemorative festival in their hometown to celebrate the occasion which sold out weeks in advance. In March 2011, the band’s hit albums “ADVANCE INTO UNKNOWN” and “MIND OVER MATTER” plus selected remixes will be reissued as “THE GREAT ILLUSION” and Solitary Experiments will head out to an extensive tour.

Vor bereits mehr als 20 Jahren startete die Karriere einer Band, deren Name heute nicht mehr aus der hiesigen Electro-Szene wegzudenken ist. Die Rede ist von Solitary Experiments.
Mit ihren mittlerweile 5 Studio Alben, 3 Remix Compilations, einer EP, einer Singleauskopplung, sowie den daraus resultierenden Wiederveröffentlichungen zählen die Jungs aus Brandenburg und Berlin mittlerweile zur Oberliga auf dem Sektor der elektronischen Unterhaltungsmusik.
1994 in Frankfurt (Oder) von Dennis Schober und Michael Thielemann gegründet und in den ersten vier Jahren durch Dana Apitz als Gastsängerin unterstützt, konnte die Band sich bereits mit ihren ersten drei Alben „FINAL APPROACH“, „PARADOX“ und der dazugehörigen Remix-Scheibe „FINAL ASSAULT“ (alle im Jahre 2006 mit Bonustracks auf Out Of Line wieder veröffentlicht) als feste Szene-Größe etablieren, um dann mit „ADVANCE INTO UNKNOWN“, ihrem Out Of Line Debüt, vollends durchzustarten. Und auch mit der nachfolgenden Doppel-EP „CAUSE & EFFECT“ schafften sie, ihren Status als Publikums- und Kritiker-Darlings weiter zu zementieren. Mittlerweile seit 1999 durch Steve Graeber an den Keyboards ergänzt, agierte die Band wieder als Trio. Es folgten unzählige Compilation-Beiträge und Tourneen mit Bands wie Icon Of Coil, [:SITD:], Neuroticfish, Funker Vogt und Blutengel, sowie Tourneen und Festival-Auftritte in ganz Europa und den USA, sodass der Name Solitary Experiments bald so ziemlich jedem Electro-Fan ein Begriff wurde.
Mit ihrem 2005er Überflieger-Album „MIND OVER MATTER“ hatte es die deutsche Formation geschafft, sich mit ihrer eingängigen Mischung aus Synthpop und wuchtiger EBM endgültig an die Speerspitze der Electro-Szene zu katapultieren. Daraufhin folgten im Jahr 2006 die Wiederveröffentlichungen der drei längst vergriffenen Frühwerke der Band. Mit „COMPENDIUM“ brachten die Jungs dann 2007 abermals eine Club-Keule an den Start. Das Remix-Album enthielt als Besonderheit, neben unveröffentlichten Versionen, auch Kollaborationen mit namhaften Künstlern, wie z.B. Feindflug oder Agonoize.
Auf dem Nachfolger „IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER“ zeigte sich das Quartett, ergänzt durch Frank Glassl an den Live-Drums, gesanglich wie musikalisch wieder von seiner vielseitigsten Seite. Das Album enthält die Club-Hits „Immortal“ und „Rise And Fall“ und wurde schnell zum erfolgreichsten Longplayer der Bandkarriere. Musikalisch und auch soundtechnisch verfolgten Solitary Experiments den auf dem Vorgängeralbum eingeschlagenen Weg mit einer perfekt produzierten Verbindung aus Gefühl und Club-kompatibler Wucht konsequent weiter.
Das Jahr 2010 war ein Besonderes für die Band, feierte sie doch ihr 15tes Bühnenjubiläum. Diesen besonderen Anlass wussten Solitary Experiments nicht nur mit dem Tonträger „COMPENDIUM 2“, der unveröffentlichte Kollaborationen, Remixe und Versionen, sowie rare Mixe für andere Künstler enthält, sondern auch mit einem lange vorher ausverkauften Mini-Festival in ihrer Wahlheimat Berlin gebührend zu feiern. Im März 2011 werden die beiden Erfolgsalben „ADVANCE INTO UNKNOWN“ und „MIND OVER MATTER“ mit diversen Bonus-Mixen als „THE GREAT ILLUSION“ wiederveröffentlicht und die Band begibt sich auf eine ausgedehnte Tournee.
