With the complexity of the music, it may surprise you to find that Empusae is actually a project created by a single man, Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe aka Sal-Ocin. Empusae exercises a surreal science of structure that throbs and pulsates in an almost obsessive manner.
The music is almost suggestive of a mechanical assembly line in its clock work clunks and clangs. It builds into a tense, yet haunting soundscape and rivets itself into the memory and refuses to be forgotten. It is serious music who's architecture has formed for itself a solid foundation, rather than sounding as if its trying to tear itself apart! When listening to Empusae's music, you're lost in dark melancholy, tribal electronic athmospheres and scarefull ambient rituals.
Empusae continuously is music for the darkened souls, the lost ones. The style of music is like a journey from the postapocalyptic industrial and urban wastelands to the organic sounds of the wilderness in nature.

Empusae became more settled, a bit calmer but never less intensive. Sphere from the woods is like ivy-soundscapes, winding up the trees from all their roots up to their crowns and in the sky. Misty fields for souls who can't decide whether to stay in this or to transcend into other worlds. It's all about the mysteries and depths of nature and the animus; silently but constantly walking the leylines of music. The quintessence of this quite alchemical Opus Magnum could be "stand your fears" as well as "no matter what you'll do, your demons will prevail".
Sal-Ocin describes his music as a sountrack for the listeners personal fantasies. Being a member of various other project such as This Morn' Omina, Tzolk'in, Project Arctic and a live member of In Slaughter Natives, Ah Cama-Sotz, IC 434, Triarii, TriOre and Sophia, Sal-Ocin isn't afraid of working together with other artists (Nick Grey, Arcana, ISN, ORE and many others).

Empusae ist ein belgisches Industrial-Musikprojekt von Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe aus Gent.
Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe verbindet in seinem Projekt Empusae tribalistische und rituelle Elemente mit Industrial. Im Jahr 2002 veröffentlichte Empusae das Debütalbum "Funestus" über Divine Comedy Records, 2003 folgte das Album "Ritual Decay". Im Oktober 2003 trat Empusae beim Maschinenfest auf. 2005, Oktober 2008, 2011 und Oktober 2014 trat Empusae dort erneut auf. Mit dem Album "Error 404: Metaphorical Loss" veröffentlicht Empusae am 30. September 2005 das Debüt beim Dortmunder Label Hands Productions. Im April 2006 trat Empusae beim Elektroanschlag Festival auf. Ende April 2006 trat er beim FORMS OF HANDS Festival auf. Im April 2008, April 2009 und Mai 2011 trat er dort erneut auf.
Am 25. April 2008 folgte mit "The Hatred Of Trees" das zweite Album über Hands Productions. Im November 2008 spielte Empusae beim 7. Wrocław Industrial Festival in Breslau in Polen. Empusae war mit einem Remix an dem Album "Quasar" von Spherical Disrupted vom 9. Oktober 2009 beteiligt. Am 23. Februar 2011 folgte das Split-Album "Organic.Aural.Ornaments" mit Shinkiro (Manabu Hiramoto). Im März 2012 trat Empusae erneut beim Elektroanschlag Festival auf. Am 24. April 2012 folgte sein nächstes Soloalbum "Symbiosis". Daran beteiligt waren Tomas Pettersson (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio), Jouni Havukainen (In Slaughter Natives), Nick Grey und Musiker von Arcana. Im Mai 2012 spielte Empusae beim Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig. Am 25. Oktober 2013 folgte das Album "Sphere From The Woods" und exakt ein Jahr später das Album "Rūtsu No Hōyō". Am 24. April 2015 folgte das Split-Album "Deugden Van Angst En Het Kwaad", diesmal mit Marc T. (Marc Titolo). Marc Titolo ist in Collapse, Dirge, Dither und Quantizer aktiv. Am 16. Juli 2016 folgte erneut ein Split-Album, diesmal mit Klankdal (Sebastian Crusener und Glenn Dick). Consouling Store und Wool-E Shop veröffentlichen im Rahmen des Gentse Feesten Festival diese Zusammenarbeit mit Empusae und Klankdal. Am 7. April 2017 folgte das Album "Lueur".
Bei Liveauftritten wird Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe von Tom De Doncker und Benjamin Sperling unterstützt. Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe ist bei Liveautritten auch mit Ah Cama-Sotz von Herman Klapholz und In Slaughter Natives von Jouni Havukainen aktiv und tritt auch unter dem Namen Sal-Ocin auf. Er ist Mitglied der beglischen Band This Morn' Omina, Tzolk'in, Project Arctic, Onus und Hive.
