Going strong for 30 years, Suicide Commando have not only been pioneers of the harder Electro genre, but continue being innovators up to this very day.
Formed in summer 1986 by Johan van Roy, the band made a name for itself through a series of self-released tapes from the late Eighties to the early Nineties. When the group released its first full-length CD „Critical Stage“ in 1994, it soon would evolve into one of the most popular and important acts of the scene.
In this and all of the subsequent releases, Van Roy explores the dark side of humanity with lashing beats, haunting atmospheric electronics and an addictively psychotic and relentlessly aggressive vocal style. With eternal club hits, such as the seminal „See You In Hell“ or “hellraiser” and an impressive roster of successful album releases, from the classics “Mindstrip”, „Axis Of Evil“, „Bind, Torture, Kill“ and „Implements Of Hell“ to the apocalyptic 2013-masterpiece „When Evil Speaks“, Suicide Commando continue to be genre-defining while always evolving their very own trademark sound of synthetically-induced mayhem.
They are a regular guest at the biggest scene-related festivals around the world and are renowned for their energetic stage performance. With an ever-growing rabid fan base at their back, Suicide Commando are one of the most popular live acts of the entire scene.
The band is currently working on the next album and, judging from the sold-out advance single „The Pain That You Like“, it will be nothing short of another Hard-Electro-milestone.

Suicide Commando (engl. Selbstmordkommando) ist das Musik-Projekt des Belgiers Johan Van Roy. Stilistisch zunächst im Electro-Industrial-Umfeld beheimatet, tendierte die Musik ab Ende der 1990er Jahre vermehrt in Richtung Aggrotech.
Stil
Die in den ersten Jahren veröffentlichten Demo-Kassetten waren noch deutlich von dem minimalistischen Sound von The Klinik geprägt. Erst unter verstärktem Einfluss von Electro-Industrial-Formationen wie Mortal Constraint und Dive nahm der harte Sound von Suicide Commando allmählich Gestalt an. Unterstrichen wird dieser Bezug durch den Gastauftritt des Klinik- und Dive-Sängers Dirk Ivens auf dem Album Critical Stage bei dem er den Text des Liedes Where Do We Go From Here ? schrieb und den Gesang übernahm. Über die Jahre gewann der Stil von Suicide Commando eingehendere, technoid geprägte Rhythmen und gilt heute als prägend für Aggrotech; beispielsweise auch durch gegenseitige Remixe oder gemeinsame Touren mit Bands desselben Genres (z. B. Tactical Sekt oder Hocico).
Der Großteil der Texte handelt von Tod, Mord und angrenzenden Themen (von Suizid über Sterbehilfe bis zu Nekrophilie). Zusätzlich spielen krankhafte oder gescheiterte zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen, kritische Religionsbetrachtungen oder gesellschaftliche Probleme eine Rolle in Suicide Commandos Texten. Zum Teil werden auch konkrete politische oder gesellschaftspolitische Themen aufgegriffen (z. B. ist das Thema des Albums Bind, Torture, Kill der als BTK-Killer bekannt gewordene Serienmörder Dennis Rader, Menschenfresser aus diesem Album beschäftigt sich mit dem Kannibalen von Rotenburg oder Evildoer von Axis of Evil beinhaltet die Irakpolitik von George W. Bush). Die meisten Texte sind in Englisch gehalten; da van Roy aber auch deutsch spricht und insbesondere in Deutschland eine große Fangemeinde hat, erschienen inzwischen auch einige wenige Stücke in deutscher Sprache.
