TWIN NOIR - "2 Punks and a Tape Machine"

TWIN NOIR is a Berlin based Post-Punk/Wave/EBM artist duo, consisting of Cody Barcelona (Voice, Electronics, Guitar) and Ian Volt (Voice, Bass), presents their 11-song debut album "2 Punks and a Tape Machine“. The music of TWIN NOIR oscillates between technoid sounding tones and open wide spheres with melodic moments, combined with satirical-dadaistic lyrics in German language.

The sound of TWIN NOIR is significantly shaped by an analog tape machine, a sampler, guitars and a theremin. These devices are creatively used to present their own style of Punk. Technoid beats, driving basslines and a guitar that ranges from clean and spherical to distorted and biting, develops the driving force that invites you to dance. The influences of TWIN NOIR range from German electronic pioneers KRAFTWERK or DAF to the EBM and Techno scene, as well as from 70s to 90s Punk and Rock.

The story of TWIN NOIR begins with the mutual admiration of the two musicians, Cody Barcelona and Ian Volt, who new each other from the local music scene. The lockdown 2022 pandemic gave their collaboration the decisive impulse. They started jamming in the streets of Berlin, since all live venues in the city were closed and so they discovered their shared musical vision. At the beginning of 2022, the two went on their first joint tour to Mexico, playing 15 shows and recording the first half of their debut album in Mexico City. Back in Europe, they went to the 'Portugal Recording Studio' near Lisbon and completed the recordings of their debut album TWIN NOIR "2 Punks and a Tape Machine", which was then mastered in Berlin.“ The album has been available since spring 2023 on all streaming platforms, as well as on vinyl, tape and CD digipack.

Live, TWIN NOIR impress with energetic performances and danceable sound, that captivate the audience. The show is inspired by Berlin's club culture, punk and vaudeville, aiming to inspire the audience to revitalize freedom and creativity in life, art and culture. Connecting and sharing each other‘s energy – that‘s what makes TWIN NOIR shows special.

TWIN NOIR has already achieved significant milestones, including the presentation of two of their songs by Iggy Pop on his BBC Radio 6 show "Iggy Confidential." They were also featured by the European music initiative "Europelive" as one of the "50 promising European artists“ and played in two years over 17 countries live.
