From Classic to Rock, from Folk to Metal - Shir-Ran Yinon is a versatile and multifaceted musician. As performer on violin and viola as well as a composer and arranger - there are no musical boundaries.
Shir-Ran performs internationally with well-known rock and metal acts. She plays frequently as guest violinist with British rock band New Model Army since 2014. During 2015-2016 she was the tour violinist and backing vocalist of Swiss folk-metal band Eluveitie, playing altogether more than 90 shows worldwide with the band. Since 2017 she also performs with the German orchestral-metal band Haggard and has joined the medieval-rock band Krayenzeit. Shir-Ran toured through 28 countries on 5 continents, including shows at major festivals like Woodstock Festival Poland, Summer Breeze and Masters of Rock. As guest on stage and in the studio she has also collaborated with Epica (NL), Cellar Darling (CH), Fjoergyn (DE), Die Zöllner (DE), Engerling (DE) and many others.
Despite her extensive work in the pop-rock field, Shir-Ran comes originally from the world of classical music. She studied viola with Avshalom Sarid at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and was a fellow in the academy’s Excellence in Chamber Music program between 2011-2013. Later she completed an orchestral internship in the KammerAkademie Halle and has played in numerous orchestras.
Shir-Ran is also a composer and arranger. She wrote commisioned works for the German String Philharmonic, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, the Studentenorchester Münster, the KammerAkademie Halle and the young artists in residence of the young academy Rostock. Shir-Ran studied composition with Prof. Oded Zehavi at the University of Haifa, at which she received in 2011 the Dean's Award for Excellence as well as the first prize of the Itay Weiner Composition Competition. Shir-Ran's works reach across a broad stylistic spectrum : she has written classical pieces, music for short films and theatre productions, arrangements in the pop-rock-metal genre as well as electronic music.
Shir-Ran grew up in Mannheim, Germany and has also lived in Haifa and Jerusalem in Israel. She returned to Germany in 2013 and lives nowadays in Leipzig. Shir-Ran is the daughter of the internationally renowned conductor Israel Yinon (1956-2015), who loved music above all.

Von Klassik bis Rock über Folk und Metal - Shir-Ran Yinon ist eine vielseitige und facettenreiche Musikerin. Als Performerin an Geige und Bratsche wie auch als Komponistin und Arrangeurin setzt sie sich keine musikalischen Grenzen.
Shir-Ran performt international mit bekannten Bands der Rock- und Metalszene - seit 2014 ist sie ständige Gast-Geigerin der legendären britischen Band New Model Army; 2015-2016 tourte sie weltweit mit der Schweizer Folk-Metal-Band Eluveitie als Session-Geigerin und Backgroundsängerin. Seit 2017 spielt Shir-Ran bei der Klassik-Metal-Formation Haggard und stieg im selben Jahr bei den Mittelalter-Rockern Krayenzeit ein. Auf der Bühne und im Studio gastierte sie bei Bands wie Schandmaul, The Eden House (UK), Epica (NL), Cellar Darling (CH), Die Zöllner, Engerling, Ingrimm, Fjoergyn und vielen anderen; im Ensemble spielte sie auch mit Evanescence (US) und 2Cellos (HR). Konzerttouren führten Shir-Ran in die USA, Kanada, Australien, Südafrika, Taiwan, Singapur und über 20 europäische Länder, einschließlich Auftritten bei großen Festivals wie dem Wacken Open Air, Wave Gotik Treffen, Summer Breeze, Woodstock Festival Poland (PL) und Masters of Rock (CZ).
Neben Rock und Metal ist Shir-Ran auch in weiteren musikalischen Genres tätig und spielte als Substitutin bei den Musicals "Disneys der Glöckner von Notre Dame" in Berlin und "Das Wunder von Bern" in Hamburg, sowie in der Band von "The Voice of Israel". Ursprünglich kommt sie jedoch aus der Klassik - Shir-Ran studierte Viola an der Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance bei Avshalom Sarid und war dort 2011-2013 Stipendiatin des Kammermusikexzellenzprogramms. Später absolvierte sie ein Orchesterpraktikum in der KammerAkademie Halle und spielte in verschiedenen Orchestern in Deutschland und Israel.
Shir-Ran ist außerdem Komponistin und Arrangeurin. Sie schrieb Werke und Arrangements u.a. für die Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie, das Studentenorchester Münster, das Haifa Symphony Orchestra, die KammerAkademie Halle und die young academy Rostock. Shir-Ran studierte Komposition bei Prof. Oded Zehavi an der University of Haifa und wurde dort 2011 mit dem Preis des Dekans sowie dem ersten Preis des Itay Weiner Kompositionswettbewerbs ausgezeichnet. Ihre Kompositionen umfassen ebenfalls ein breites musikalisches Spektrum - sie schreibt "klassische" Werke, Arrangements für CD Produktionen im Pop-Rock-Metal Bereich und komponierte auch Musik für Kurzfilme und Theaterproduktionen sowie elektronische Musik. Ihre jüngste Auftragskomposition - die "Headbanging Symphony" für das Studentenorchester Münster und die Band Words of Farewell - vereint die Welten der Klassik und des Metals und wurde im Juli 2018 mit großem Erfolg in Münster uraufgeführt.
Shir-Ran wuchs in Mannheim auf und wohnte später in Haifa und Jerusalem in Israel. Seit 2013 lebt sie wieder in Deutschland und ist in Leipzig wohnhaft. Shir-Ran ist die Tochter des international renommierten Dirigenten Israel Yinon (1956-2015), der die Musik über alles liebte.
