If Karies (German for »tooth decay«) sounded like their Wikipedia entry begins, we’d all be worse off: »Karies is a German punk band from Stuttgart that belongs to the sub-genre of post-punk«, it reads, dry as a cracker. It’s about as fun as that little saying by Adorno and Horkheimer they wrote on their first demo in 2013: »Fun is a medicinal bath«. It speaks for itself that the band could release three confrontational LPs off the cuff, and the music therein goes even further. The punk of Karies is a medicinal bath, for sure. But also hot and funky, ice-cold and tough. Let’s try it like this: Karies is a German punk band from Stuttgart that sounds exactly like tooth decay feels: somewhere deep inside it hurts so badly that only screaming can help.

Karies ist eine deutsche Punkband aus Stuttgart, die dem Subgenre Post-Punk zuzuordnen ist.
Geschichte
Die Band aus Stuttgart veröffentlichte 2013 ihr erstes Demo Fun ist ein Stahlbad.
Das Debütalbum, Seid umschlungen, Millionen wurde am 2. Oktober 2014 veröffentlicht. Produziert wurde das Album mit elf Liedern im Jugendhaus KOMMA in Esslingen vom Die Nerven-Sänger und -Gitarristen Max Rieger.
Es folgten zahlreiche Auftritte im Rahmen einer Deutschlandtournee und Supportauftritte für Bands wie Turbostaat und Sleaford Mods.
Für die Produktion des zweiten Albums Es geht sich aus (2016) war neben Max Rieger auch der Musiker und Produzent Ralv Milberg verantwortlich. Das Album erhielt mehrere positive Rezensionen, unter anderem 9,5 von 10 möglichen Punkten vom Independent-Magazin prettyinnoise.de.
Das aktuelle Album Alice erschien am 12. Oktober 2018. Schlagzeuger Kevin Kuhn ist derzeit mit seinen Bands Die Nerven und Wolf Mountains ausgelastet und wird auf der aktuellen Tour von Paul Schwarz, Schlagzeuger der Band Human Abfall, ersetzt.
