GROUND NERO is the new era - cold wave band that redefines 80ies post punk, cold wave sound, making use of state-of-the-art sound tech but keeping cold wave roots and culture, re-staging it with multi-layered "wall-of-sound" music arrangements...aiming at making people shiver...
OUR SOUND:
Heavy guitars, making use of typical 80ies sound effects, combined with dark synth sounds and multitrack drums creating a „wall of sound“, to form a massive nero ground to accentuate the powerful voice of Guido Wampers, AKA Gwijde de Eerste.
The GROUND is NERO and it is about the cold atmosphere, the deep darkness of the soul. It finds it’s origin in the black, Limburg mining area of the 80ies, similar to the sad, melancholic and cheerless atmosphere of the Manchester area of that time. The dark ground is the base, where bass player Peter Philtjens and Nomad (Peter Smeets), guitars, previously part of the 80ies cold wave band, Von Durckheim set off after many years to find and go back to their basics.
After having formed „the machine“ behind GROUND NERO, they needed to find the best possible conductor, who could express, articulate their musical thoughts and could blend with the heavy, melancholic sound of the band. And they did:
Guido Wampers, the former and original singer of the 80ies cold wave band Portrait Bizarre, who even made it into John Peel’s cult show with one of their songs. His voice has grown, become mature, dark and melancholic, perfectly lifting the GROUND NERO sound to a new dimension...

Nach der 2016 auf Vinyl und CD veröffentlichten und von der internationalen schwarzen Szene gelobten “BEYOND”-EP, erscheint jetzt mit „SCALES“ die zweite EP der belgischen Dark Wave und Gothic Rock Band, GROUND NERO. Und schwarz ist GROUND NERO, denn es handelt sich hier um eine grundweg kalte Stimmung, die dunkelste Seite der Seele. Sie findet ihren Ursprung im finsteren belgischen Limburg der Achziger, vergleichbar mit der trüben, melancholischen und tristen Atmo im derzeitigen Manchester.
Dieser dunkle und schwarze “Boden” ist die Grundlage, auf der Bassist Peter Philtjens, Gitarrist Nomad (Peter Smeets) und Sänger Gwijde der Erste (Guido Wampers) nach vielen Jahren die Suche nach ihrer Identität und Seele wieder aufgegriffen haben. Inspiriert von ikonografischen Bands wie etwa Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Killing Joke, The Chameleons, Cocteau Twins oder X-Mal Deutschland… Die neue “SCALES” erscheint auf Danse Macabre Records und stellt eine Art von Gratwanderung dar, eine logische Entwicklung der ersten EP, wobei die Band die Quadranten des Dark Wave und Gothic Rock abtastet und erkundet.
