Vic Anselmo is a Latvian-born singer and songwriter living in Bochum, Germany.
Her stunning voice and gifted songwriting skills have made Vic Anselmo a notable alternative artist. Her sensual songs reflect the dynamics of her emotions. Vic is an impressive performer and a charismatic presence on stage. She is the first Latvian alternative female artist that became known outside the Baltic States.
Vic’s fascination with music began at a very early age. She started with traditional piano and vocal lessons, but began to write her own songs by the age of ten. Her debut album “Trapped In A Dream” (2008) was chosen as Newcomer of the Month in Orkus! Magazine. Vic’s second album “In My Fragile…“ (2011) brought her even more recognition and received an enthusiastic response by fans and music critics alike.
In recent years Vic was also involved in several interesting co-operations with the likes of Mick Moss (Antimatter), Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering) and Duncan Patterson (ex-Anathema) amongst others.
In 2013 Vic Anselmo started working on her third release. In contrast to her first two albums, Vic and acclaimed Dutch producer Joost van den Broek approached the recording of “Who Disturbs The Water” in a more intimate manner. The piano and vocal parts were all done as one take and some subtle additional elements like strings and percussion were recorded afterward. The new album possesses a warmth that can be attributed to this recording setup.
Vic explains: “The whole recording and arranging process was really special. It was Joost’s idea to record me live and it enabled me to present my songs in such a beautiful and organic way.”
The songs on Vic’s new album deal with water as a symbol of transformation, adaptation, power and clarity. The album is dedicated to her late father, a Latvian seaman who died during the writing of “Who Disturbs The Water”.
After leading a successful crowd funding campaign the album "Who Disturbs The Water" was released on October 2nd, 2015.
On April 25, 2016, the new EP "Backyard Novelties" was released. The record is a collection of Vic’s older songs in new acoustic versions, as well as of a cover version of Kate Bush’s "Mother Stands for Comfort" as a bonus track. The EP was produced by Gijs Coolen.
In live performance, Vic sings and accompanies herself on piano as both a solo acoustic act and as a three piece band.

Frühe Jahre
Seit ihrer Kindheit wurde sie durch viele verschiedene Musikrichtungen inspiriert. Zunächst nahmen Blues, Country und Soul, später unter anderen Rock, Grunge, Progressive Metal und Gothic Metal Einfluss auf ihre musikalische Entwicklung. Im Alter von 10 Jahren besuchte Vic Anselmo eine Musikschule, wo sie das Klavierspielen erlernte und mit dem Schreiben ihrer eigenen Songtexte begann. Sie brachte sich selbst das Gitarrenspiel bei. Mit 16 Jahren gründete Vic Anselmo ihre erste eigene Band und feierte erste Erfolge an regionalen Veranstaltungen wie dem Rockfestival Sinepes un Medus 2003 in Madona und dem Festival Liepājas dzintars 2004 in Liepāja
Im September 2006 erschien Vic Anselmos Demo-CD „Beverly“.
Karriere
Im März 2008 nahm Vic Anselmo ihr Debüt-Album „Trapped in a Dream“ auf, welches im Oktober 2008 unter ihrem eigenen Management (Vic Anselmo Management) veröffentlicht und durch Omniamedia/Rough Trade in Europa verbreitet wurde. Später nahm sie „In my Fragile“ auf (erschienen am 19. August 2011, Danse Macabre). 2015 erschien ihr drittes Album "Who disturbs the Water" (erschienen am 2. Oktober 2015, Clandestine Music).
Vic Anselmo war Supporting Act bei einer Europa Tournee des deutschen Elektronik Avantgarde Duo Deine Lakaien. Sie eröffnete alle 24 Shows der „Indicator tour“ in Deutschland, Österreich, der Schweiz und Luxemburg. In Antimatters Tournee „Fear of Europe“ hat sie als Gastsängerin und Pianistin teilgenommen. Neben diesen Gastauftritten tourte sie mit ihrer eigenen Band in drei Club-Tourneen durch Europa und trat auf großen Festivals wie dem WGT 2009 (Deutschland), Castle Party 2009 (Polen), Waregem Gothic Festival 2010 (Belgien), Elf Fantasy Fair 2010 (Niederlande) und Dark Mills 2010 in London (Vereinigtes Königreich) auf. Außerdem trat Vic als Gastsängerin bei Das Ich auf dem WGT und Amphi Festival 2011 und bei Mesh auf dem M’era Luna Festival 2011 in Erscheinung.
Vic Anselmo erschien als Gastsängerin in dem Lied „Adoration“ von ION, einem Projekt von Duncan Patterson und sang ein Duett mit Mesh in „You’ll never understand“. Des Weiteren wurde sie Mitglied bei Inner Fear, einem Projekt des Drummers von Cradle Of Filth, Martin Skaroupka. Vic Anselmo machte auch Gesangsaufnahmen für die CDs „Fear Of A Unique Identity“ von Antimatter und „Asen’ka“ von Samsas Traum.
Vic Anselmo ist ein Künstlername, den ihre Freunde Viktorija wegen ihrer Liebe zu Pantera gaben, deren Sänger Phil Anselmo heißt.
