Black Line is DJMRex evolved.
The name no longer accurately represented the project which had grown beyond its two founding members. Black Line represents a diverse collective of musicians, producers, and sound designers, free to come and go as they please. With various production and remix projects in the pipeline, ‘Treason, Sedition And Subversive Activities’ offers up the first taste of what's to come.
The creation of ‘Treason, Sedition And Subversive Activities’ was an exercise in controlled chaos and spontaneous collaboration. With a heavy focus on modular synthesis and all its unpredictability, half the work was sculpting somewhat chaotic performances and happy accidents into cohesive songs. Contributors would come and go, working together and inspiring each other in the same room.
When it comes to record sleeve design, there’s Vaughn Oliver, Peter Saville, Neville Brody and Steven R. Gilmore. Getting to work with an artist you respect can be nothing short of magical and having the legendary Steven R. Gilmore on board would be a dream come true for most any band.

Nanu, was entwickelt sich denn hier? Mit Black Line erscheint ein neues Projekt auf der Bildfläche, dessen Besetzung allein schon bei Freunden guter Elektronik den Atem stocken lässt. Um das Kernteam, bestehend aus Cyrusrex (Musik) und Nitzer Ebb-Shouter Douglas McCarthy (Vocals), die in der Vergangenheit auch schon als DJMREX kollaborierten, reiht sich eine unglaublich illustre Schar an Musikern. Ein Auszug:
- Ken ‚Hiwatt’ Marshall: der langjährige Produzent von Skinny Puppy, Numb und Front Line Assembly ist als Produzent und Engineer dabei
- Christian Eigner: der Trommler von Depeche Mode haut bei Black Line in die Felle
- Paul Barker: das ehemalige Mitglied von Ministry und Revolting Cocks spielt Bass
- Bon Harris: der musikalische Kopf von Nitzer Ebb dreht bei Black Line an den richtigen Knöpfen
- Mark Walk: aus dem Umfeld von Skinny Puppy / ohGr, gibt Douglas’ Gesang den letzten Schliff
Black Line verfolgt einen experimentellen, kollaborativen Ansatz und entwickelt sich konstant in puncto Stil und Involvierte weiter. Es heißt, dass jeder Track einen bestimmten Moment repräsentiert, wobei zum einen High-End-Technik und zum anderen auch traditionelle elektronische Instrumente zum Einsatz kommen, was für einen besonderen, unverwechselbaren Sound sorgen soll. Eine erste Veröffentlichung ist für den Sommer 2017 vorgesehen.
