Revolting Cocks, also known as RevCo, are an American industrial rock band that began as a musical side-project for BelgianmusiciansRichard 23 (Front 242) and Luc van Acker with Ministry’s Alain Jourgensen in 1985.
Losing Richard 23 after some creative differences, the group’s remaining two members were augmented by a rapidly changingset ofmusicians centered around Chris Connelly (Fini Tribe, later Damage Manual), Paul Barker (Ministry), Duane Buford, andBill Rieflin (who isnow playing for REM), with around twenty others as irregular contributors or guest artists.
Their single "No Devotion" was quickly followed by an album Big Sexy Land in 1986, which on its turn was followed by a livealbum YouGoddamned Son of a Bitch in 1987 and a studio LP Beers, Steers, & Queers in 1989. After a hiatus, Linger Ficken’Good was released in 1993 -this would be Revolting Cocks’ last album for over 10 years.
The first album was a mix of industrial, dance and techno, with sampling and strong synthesized beats dominating. The livealbum, with thechange in personnel, featured a return to Ministry-like industrial - the Big Sexy Land tracks embedded inshouting and noise. This trendcontinued on Beers, Steers, & Queers, layering sample over sample and pushing ever furtherinto distortion. Linger Ficken’ Good was releasedby Sire records and is a tamer affair, most tracks returning to the lesslayered material and only occasionally producing Ministry noise.Included was a cover of Rod Stewart’s "Do Ya Think I’mSexy", which was also released as a single.
In 2004, the band released iterations of Prune Tang to disappointing responses from fans. An album titled Purple Head wasdue in 2004, butwas delayed until 2006 with a change in title to Cocked & Loaded. The first single, "Caliente (Dark Entries)",a cover of sorts of Dark Entries,with vocalist Gibby Haynes, was featured on the soundtrack of Saw II in 2005.
The Revolting Cocks are also known for their perverse lyrics and raunchy live shows. Due to their content, they were a targetfor angrymoralists in the late ’80s/early ’90s. In the mid ’80s, their song “No Devotion” was put on the PMRC’s “banning list”,and in 1990, Britain’sHome Secretary Douglas Hurd tried to stop the band from performing in the UK by refusing them workpermits. They have also been offensiveto the songwriters/performers in which they chose to cover and satire, such as OliviaNewton-John and Rod Stewart (though the former deniedthem permission entirely to perform their work outright).
The group has carried on strong since their 2006 affair Cocked & Loaded, releasing 2 remix albums and a full length. Theirnewest album, GotCock?, is scheduled for a April 13 release.
The origin of the group’s name is uncertain. One story claims that the name was the result of the original lineup participatingin a night ofextremely heavy drinking, which resulted in a bar owner throwing the drunk group out and calling them a bunchof revolting cocks.

Geschichte
Die Gruppe wurde 1985 von Jourgensen und den Belgiern Luc Van Acker, Patrick Codenys und Richard 23 (Front 242) gegründet. Die erste Veröffentlichung war No Devotion bei Wax Trax! Records.
Nachdem Richard 23 und Patrick Codenys nach Differenzen die Band verließen, stießen Chris Connelly (Fini Tribe, später Damage Manual), Paul Barker (Ministry), Duane Buford, und Bill Rieflin (der nun für R.E.M. spielt), mit ungefähr 20 anderen unregelmäßig Beitragenden oder Gastkünstlern zur Band.
Der Single folgte schnell das Album Big Sexy Land im Jahr 1986, gefolgt von einem Livealbum You Goddamned Son of a Bitch im Jahr 1987 und Beers, Steers, and Queers 1989. Nach einer Pause wurde Linger Ficken’ Good 1993 veröffentlicht. Dies war das letzte Album der Revolting Cocks für über zehn Jahre.

Ein Album mit dem Titel Purple Head war für 2004 geplant, wurde aber bis 2006 verschoben und umbenannt in Cocked & Loaded.
Die Revolting Cocks sind auch für ihre teils sehr anstößigen Texte und Liveshows bekannt.
Der Ursprung des Namens ist unbekannt. Es wird behauptet, er leite sich von der Beschimpfung eines Barkeepers ab, der die ursprünglichen Bandmitglieder wegen exzessiven Trinkens seiner Bar verwies und sie als „Revolting Cocks“ bezeichnete.
Das Album-Cover von No Devotion zeigt eine alte Fotografie dreier unbekannter junger Männer, anstelle der tatsächlichen Bandmitglieder. Auf sämtlichen Veröffentlichungen bis Cocked and Loaded waren in Folge diese „Three Guys“ zu sehen, teilweise in skurrilen Zusammenstellungen.
